History Emblem
Garuda , the vehicle ( vahana ) of Vishnu appears in many temples of ancient Indonesia. Temples such as Prambanan , Petnataran , Belahan and Sukuh depict images (relief or statue) of Garuda . Garuda appear in many traditions and history , especially in Java and Bali . In many stories Garuda symbolizes the dignity of knowledge , power , courage, loyalty , and discipline. As the vehicle of Vishnu , Garuda has signs of Vishnu , which symbolize preservation of cosmic order . Balinese tradition (before the advent of Islam ) to respect and honor Garuda as " the lord of all creatures that can fly ," and " the majestic king of birds ." In Bali, Garuda traditionally portrayed as a divine creature with the head , beak, wings and claws of an eagle, while a human body. Usually portrayed in intricate carving with gold and bright colors, as the vehicle of Vishnu or in battle scene against Naga ( Dragon , water snake) snake. Important and noble position of Garuda in Indonesian tradition since ancient times respected Garuda as the national symbol of Indonesia , the embodiment of Indonesian ideology , Pancasila . Scroll and Motto

Shield - a military symbol for the country's defense . It is divided into five sections : background divided into quarters , painted red and white (the colors of the national flag ) in a checkerboard pattern , and a smaller , concentric shield , black in the background. Thick black spot, which is just across the shield symbolizes the equator , which is located across the archipelago of Indonesia.
